of Ramganga Mitra in Moradabad

life expected to come together to volunteer to become Ramganga Mitra (Friends
of the Ramganga)

Ramganga river in Moradabad
will soon have its own brigade of ‘mitras’ or friends to work towards its
restoration and conservation as the District Administration of Moradabad in
partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF-India) organizes a
meeting on ‘Ramganga Mitra’, on October 8..
The Ramganga Mitras (friends
of the Ramganga) will be a group of citizens from Moradabad with representation
and participation from diverse stakeholder groups such as People’s
representatives, Corporators, Civil
Society Organisations, NGOs, Community Based Organisations, Businesses,
Educational Institutions, Researchers, Journalists, Individuals, Government
bodies, students and others.
Ramganga
Mitra is envisaged to be the agents of change who would be
engaged on several key activities like monitoring of the river, nalah,
groundwater and ponds in the city from time to time, clean up initiatives,
campaign and outreach activities to sensitise the citizens of Moradabad on
river conservation. They will also be actively engaged in planning and
implementation of water and river conservation activities. Ramganga Mitra will
also bring key issues concerning the state of water and river to the notice of
the District Administration and the Nagar Nigam, leading to improved
health of the Ramganga. The idea behind this initiative is also to bring
together diverse stakeholders to work towards the common agenda of conserving
water and river leading to significant health benefits to communities.
Shri Sanjay Kumar (IAS),
District Magistrate will chair the meeting. Smt Veena Agarwal, Hon’ble Mayor is
expected to be the Chief Guest.
Objectives

To discuss the membership, roles and
responsibilities
·
To identify potential areas of engagement
towards Ramganga conservation
This meeting is held under
the auspices of ‘Ramganga ke liye jeevan,
Jeevan ke liye Ramganga’ campaign initiated by District Administration and
WWF-India with the aim of restoring the ecological health of the Ramganga
river.
Volunteering for a noble cause, Ramganga Mitras will be
honoured and recognized by the District Administration in the long run for
their commitment to the aim of restoring the river Ramganga.
Anyone from the city who is
interested in the cause can join. A meeting of Ramganga mitra for rural
Moradabad held later.
